We Had Plans

We decided to take it easy on the 4th because the kids would be competing in a major athletic competition the next day and we didn’t want them worn out. Coach works so much anyway that when we’re having family time we tend to lay low so he can just focus on us and not have to deal with crowds and lines. We fish or go to the park or track. Many times we just hang out watching movies or have family dance competitions to Just Dance on Xbox (Coach can throw down). Other times we just catch up with each other and do all we can to make each other laugh. There are tickle wars and wrestling matches, cooking experiments and nerf gun battles. I will have you know I can rock Beyblade (if you have a boy10 and under you will understand what that is). Sometimes Coach issues major clean up orders and we all work as a team to get a household project done. As for our 4th of July plans it was to be a secluded fishing pond, a picnic blanket, and watching the fireworks that a swanky country club sets off, which happens to be the property adjacent to the pond. No one goes to this place and we have the best seats in the house.

But….

Our daughter’s cat got sick and she broke down in a puddle of tears and was worried beyond belief. He was OK in the morning, but as the day progressed poor Buddy wasn’t looking good. We were all worried. This cat came to us at a time when our daughter needed him and they are inseparable. We all love him. I thought Buddy would be alright, but we made the decison to stay home and keep our eyes in him. We had a carpet picnic instead and Coach taught our son how to attached lures to hooks. Daughter and I read (our default activity).

One of the most endearing things was watching Coach make periodic trips to check on Buddy. He’s an animal lover and has such a tender heart. He was so gentle and comforting with our daughter, too. A little while after we ate we saw that Buddy was looking and acting better. I had given him some stabilized oxygen because if it was bacterial this would kill it. Well, it must have been and he was perking up. We thought maybe we could go watch the fireworks afterall, but then it started to rain and even thiugh that was short-lived we saw that rain would be sporadic and would most likely fall right at our pond.. The kids were so happy that Buddy was doing better that they didn’t care. They got themselves ready for bed and we asleep by 8:30. They smiled in their sleep.

We knew we needed to be up at 4:00 am so we made our way to our bedroom. No, we did not have fireworks. Coach gave me a much needed massage instead and kissed me well. Neighborhood fireworks were on display from our bedroom window and as we settled into bed we talked of future plans, our love for each other and how blessed we are. We talked about sexy D/s things and our D/s goals and fantasies. We had a peaceful sleep.

Right now I am in the stands at this major competition. Coach is an official here today because he wants to make sure all the rules are followed for this most important event. Our kids our warming up and I am wearing my assistant coach’s hat.

Tonight we will have our fireworks, but today we are first and foremost dad and mom, supporting and cheering on our kids.

P.S. Buddy is doing just fine.

  1. Sometimes life happens and we need to adjust, and you made the best from what life threw at you! I love your carpet picnic, so very special! And I’m so glad Buddy is feeling better, after all our pets are family too!
Hope your kids win big today, enjoy your special day friend!

    • It was exactly what it needed to be.

The kids just missed qualifying. It was their first at this level. There’s another big one coming in 2 weeks that they will be ready for. Both kids PR’d and each have a really good national ranking for being so new to the sport. VERY proud parents, but it was so hot and long and we crashed when we got home.

  2. Sometimes you have to just go with the flow of the day and it turns out o.k. Glad to hear about Buddy. Hope the kids are happy with their efforts in the competition. Go Assistant Coach!
PS. Wanted to ask Coach his opinion about those copper infused fabrics — myth or miracle?

      • Hi Mynxie,
Elle is probably busy with the competition. I never saw Mel’s comment~at all. But, I am late.
I just saw your comment listed first and Elle replying that she needed to delete a double comment.

    • Go with the flow is all you can do.

Coach said he’s heard good things about copper infused, but has yet to try it for himself. What we are LOVING is compression leggings. I have a pair that I SWEAR reduced some unattractive cellulite significantly. My legs look soooooo much better.

  3. Awww, I’m glad your daughters cat is okay. Sometimes plans don’t work out, but at least you guys know how to make the best of it. Love that!

Enjoy the competitions and coaching (hehe), sounds like a busy and exhausting day. 🙂

        • We all had a good night’s sleep.

I have some weird coloring to my legs today. Coaches weren’t allowed on the field and I was in the stands most of the time. People around me had umbrellas that cast shadows so as a result my legs got spotty color. I need a spray tan to even me out. Coach and the kids got so brown yesterday. I’m afraid I will always look like a ghost next to them even turning my darkest tan…and I can get brown!

          • Oh how weird about the umbrella tan. I got a little color the last couple of days being in the pool and will hopefully get some more today.I try and get gradual color because I don’t tan, I burn.

I tried a spray tan once and looked like an oompa loompa. Not a good look for me.

            • No one should look like an oompa loompa!

I have avoided getting brown for years so as not to damage my skin. As a result I can burn if I don’t watch it. I used a lot of sunblock yesterday.

There’s a spray tan place here everyone swears by and I have to say no one I know looks orange. I need to be at the beach, scantily clad so I can frolic for a week and get some nice all over color.

                • We need it too. There are days I’m driving and I think, “You know, if I keep driving west before you know it I’ll be at the beach.”

Would love to go to San Diego. That was our 2nd choice in places to move, but this seemed like a better fit. I miss beach access!!!

    • You just have to go with the flow and keep a good attitude and a smile on your face.

Coach just held me last night and stroked my hair for what seemed like hours. It was heaven. We were just too worn out for anything else.

  5. When the foundation is strong, when there is a shared goal and purpose, you ride the highs and lows and appreciate all you have. Since D/s, I get much less frustrated when plans change. We love our kitty too, glad yours is better! We also were rained out, sad to have missed fireworks!

I’m glad you had a restful 4th of July. Mine didn’t exacly go as planned either. Sigh!

      • It’s not so much they didn’t turn out, more that they were ruined by circumstances outside of my control…

I’m glad you had a good time yesterday too and the kids placed well.

  7. Sometimes the very best days are the ones that don’t go as planned :). Glad Buddy is well and hope your kids did well in their competition. Those times as a family are the best. You and Coach are blessed and you recognize and celebrate that. Thank you for sharing you with all of us.
